For me who grew up abroad, I was sorry that no one was interested in Japan -QUANTSTAMP Japan National Team, Kei Oda, "Reason for doing blockchain".
Quantstamp offers a security audit protocol to discover hacking vulnerabilities and safety in Ethereum's smart contract in advance.
In 2017, it was adopted by the Y Combinator's accelerator program, and in February 2018, it was a startup that led the blockchain industry, including completing funding from professional soccer Keisuke Keisuke Honda.
In the previous article, we asked founder and CEO Richard Ma (Richard Ma) about the background story of the company's market, centered on why Japan is attracting attention from the world for blockchain.
This time, we asked Mr. Kei Oda, the representative of the Japanese corporation, at QuantStamp, about his future activities and visions, and why he arrived at the blockchain from his history.
"I was sorry that no one was interested in Japan for me who grew up abroad." -Mr. Oda, who cut it out, has been active as a bond trader for 16 years at GOLDMAN SACHS (GS).The person who has it.The GS joining group in 2000 is an experienced person in the "financial crisis" and "European crisis", which is the most rough world from 2007 to 2011.
Oda: I was in the financial area from a bond trader, so I had to always see things in a macro. As a result, I had many opportunities to always be interested in events in various countries and new technology.
そして、2010年くらいに初めて”ビットコイン”という存在を目にしました。その時点では”どうせ詐欺でしょう“という感覚でしかとらえていなかったのが正直なところです。ただ、それがきっかけで調べようと思ったのは間違いないですね。
He met Bitcoin for the first time in 2010.As if it were overwhelmed, he experienced the 2007 financial crisis and in 2011 in the European crisis. However, at that time, Bitcoin was regarded as a kind of cryptocurrency, and it was not advanced to think of events like blockchain.
According to him, that situation changed around 2013.Yes, for the first time, Bitcoin began to grow rapidly to exceed $ 1000.
Oda: From the state where I knew the existence somehow, I tried to research seriously because the price of bitcoin exceeded $ 1000 without knowing it.Why is the concept of virtual coins worth it?As a financial trader, I couldn't leave it anymore.
GS colleagues have Yuzo Kano, who will later establish bitFlyer, and says that the topics of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies have become common in the company.
And around 2017, Bitcoin plays a role as a global currency as "BTC".Oda retired from GS there and started a small bitcoin trade for play. However, at that time, his thoughts on bitcoin had been in the currency, and it was not a blockchain -like thinking.
Oda: I met Ethereum that the application using a blockchain was just for the dark web.Especially for me in a financial institution, I will have a big movement in the finance world.
So, how did you encounter a fate with a security audit company Quantstamp from the many "blockchain projects"?He says:
Oda: Around 2018, when a number of ICOs were being held around the world every week, I felt the atmosphere of the dot com bubble and the tremendous overlap.During the Internet bubble era, many infrastructure and security companies survived to the end. When I was thinking so, the coin check case just happened.
He compared the heyday of the Internet bubble era and the heyday of the blockchain ICO, and analyzed which field would survive in the future. He recognized that security played an important role as the Internet to increase the actual demand for applications. After such an event, it seems that his path was finally connected to Quantstamp.
Oda: In terms of security in blockchain, I originally researched Quantstamp's activities.I had some questions I wanted to ask directly, so I went to the conference they participated in.Then I had the opportunity to talk to Richard and other members. When I was discussing the blockchain I think and the security services required in the market, Richard invited me on the spot, "Would you like to join Quantstamp?"
Of course, I didn't go to see me with that, and I never thought that an offer would come.Although it was such a sudden development, I decided to join on the spot after hearing the QuantStamp thinking about the expansion of the Japanese market and their way of thinking about blockchain. The main reason for the decision was that I was able to sympathize with their way of thinking, as well as what I could cooperate with.
"If you can't use the service unless you understand the" blockchain ", the masadapition is tough." -The Oda explained the reasons for this as follows, looking back on the development of the Internet.
Oda: The world thinks that digitalization will continue to progress. The first wave has increased the amount of information that can be handled. You're just changing from 4G to 5g right now.
Beyond this, you will be able to handle the amount of data that is magnitude different from before. But looking back just 25 years ago, it took a huge time to send even Email. It was a faster level to take a letter and bring it, but now it has evolved so far.
When the Internet development is disassembled, the change from 4G to 5g, that is, the increase in the amount of information that can handle it will have a significant meaning in its development. So what kind of position the blockchain is looking at in the transformation?
Oda: As the amount of data that can be handled increases, it is up to humans to use it.However, I think the program will be in charge of how to keep it safely and verify reliability.I believe that blockchain and smart contracts will become an optimal technology.
In other words, as the Internet evolves and the amount of data increases, the use case of blockchain is increasing. From that point of view, it was the virtual currency that spread the first time as a use case, but in the future 10 years ahead, the phone apps that I usually use are moving so that there is nothing on the blockchain.I don't think it feels strange.
He continues to tell what the blockchain should be in the case in the future.
Oda: In the near future, I don't think you'll feel like using a blockchain even if the use case increases. The Internet, for example, is not usually interested in what kind of background is supported by streaming technology.Conversely, if the blockchain is not available unless the mechanism behind it is, the mass association is strict.
つまり、”ブロックチェーンさが無いブロックチェーンサービス“をどう生み出していくか、が問われている、と。
It is imagined that Richard mentioned in the previous interview that "Japan is a valuable environment in the world" as a market that aims for this realization from a long -term perspective. Finally, Mr. Oda concluded the interview with his expectations for the Japanese market.
Oda: While thinking that it will be like that, Japan and APAC have the impression that they have a hot business application with blockchain. In such an environment, the role of expanding business is really fun and exciting.
Certainly, blockchain still has to be technically solved, and it is still a time to download images. However, I think the time axis of the adaption will proceed earlier than the Internet 25 years earlier, and I want to be able to lead it to be a little faster.
