A smartphone app is useful for adjustment ... Equalizer [Sound tuning]
There are some acoustic disadvantages in the passenger compartment. By making full use of the "sound tuning function", it is possible to deal with them. In this series, we explain each of the specific ways to use it. Currently, we are introducing how to operate the "equalizer".
By the way, until the last time, I explained the method of "changing the seasoning of the sound" with "equalizer", but from this time, I will resume the explanation of the method of "correcting the disturbance of frequency characteristics".
Now, when trying to correct the disturbance of the frequency characteristics, it is first necessary to understand how the frequency characteristics are disturbed. So far, I've shown you how to find it audibly, but there's actually another way. It is "using a measuring instrument".
Professionals also tune using measuring instruments, but it is difficult to introduce the same equipment because professional equipment is expensive. However, there are some items that even general users may be able to reach. If you are interested, try searching for words such as "RTA (Real Time Analyzer)" or "Measuring Instrument". Then you should find some.
Or, there are various smartphone apps that could be used. There are also free apps, so try searching for them with similar words.
It's not that difficult to use. First, get a test signal called "pink noise". Since "pink noise" contains sound in all bands, if you play it on a car audio device and measure the sound with "RTA" (take a driving position and raise the smartphone in front of your face to measure). Let's find out which frequency band has the peak (where the sound is amplified) and which frequency band has the dip (where the sound is attenuated). By the way, you should be able to find "pink noise" on the internet.
Then, based on the measurement results, it is OK if the peak band is lowered with the "equalizer" and the dip band is raised with the "equalizer".
That said, I would like to see the measurement results for reference only, especially when measuring with a smartphone app. The reason is that even if the app is excellent, the performance of the microphone is not good. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain accurate measurement results. So, after adjusting the "equalizer" according to the measurement result, be sure to play the music you are familiar with and check if the sound is unnatural. And let's make fine adjustments in terms of hearing.
It is also important to measure in a quiet place. If the car passes by the side during the measurement, the correct result cannot be obtained. And don't forget to switch off the air conditioner. This is because the sound of the wind can affect the measurement results.
That's all for this time. Next time, I will introduce the tuning method using the test signal. looking forward to.
