Only this is an introduction to all 12 tools that I want to keep in mind!
AWS has many migration related tools. I would like to provide a Japanese page that summarizes those overviews, correlations and links in one place in a concise and easy-to-understand manner!
So this time, I would like to interview Satish Upreti, the Lead Migration PSA of AWS, and post a commentary on 12 tools necessary for AWS migration at once. We will post and update related Japanese sites and links to additional blogs in the future, so please bookmark this blog.
The 12 tools and services related to AWS migration introduced this time are summarized as shown in the figure below. With these AWS migration tools, you can expect to reduce infrastructure costs, improve operational speed and agility, and improve operational resilience.
List of tools and services related to AWS migration
describes each of the tools and services in the figure.
1. AWS Migration Hub
This one tool lets you track the progress of your application migrations across multiple AWS and partner solutions. With Migration Hub, you can choose the AWS and partner migration tools that best suit your needs, as well as gain visibility into the status of migrations across your portfolio of applications. Migration Hub also provides key metrics and progress for individual applications regardless of the tool used for migration. This allows you to get quick progress updates on every migration, easily identify and troubleshoot issues, and reduce the overall time and effort spent on migration projects.
There are no additional costs when using Migration Hub. You pay only for the individual migration tools you use and the cost of the resources consumed on AWS.
2. AWS Application Discovery Service
The AWS Application Discovery Service helps enterprise customers plan their migration projects by gathering information about their on-premises data centers.
Planning a data center migration often involves thousands of deeply interdependent workloads. Server utilization data and dependency mapping are important in the early stages of the migration process. AWS Application Discovery Service collects and presents configuration, usage, and behavior data from your servers to better understand your workloads.
The collected data is held in encrypted form in the AWS Application Discovery Service data store. You can export this data as a CSV file and use it to estimate your total cost of ownership (TCO) running on AWS and plan your migration to AWS. Additionally, this data is also available in AWS Migration Hub, where you can migrate discovered servers and track their progress as they migrate to AWS.
3. Migration Evaluator (Formerly TSO Logic)
If you create the business case yourself, the process can be time consuming and may not always identify the most cost-effective option. There is no limit. The business case is the first step in migration. Migration Evaluator (formerly TSO Logic) gives you access to insights to accelerate your decision-making about migrating to AWS for free. Following data collection, you will promptly receive an assessment that includes projected cost estimates and savings from running your on-premises workloads in the AWS Cloud.
After receiving the initial evaluation, if more insights are needed, the organization can work with the Migration Evaluator team to develop a directional business case. This team understands your migration objectives and uses analytics to narrow down the best migration pattern for your business needs. Organizations can take advantage of AWS expertise, visibility into costs associated with multiple migration strategies, and insight into cost savings from reusing existing software licenses. The results are captured in a transparent business case report that aligns business and technology stakeholders to provide prescriptive next steps in the transition journey.
4. AWS Server Migration Service
Automate the migration of on-premises VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V/SCVMM, and Azure virtual machines to the AWS cloud. AWS SMS gradually replicates your server's virtual machines as cloud-hosted Amazon Machine Images (AMIs), ready to be deployed on Amazon EC2. AMIs allow you to easily test and update cloud-based images before deploying them in production.

5. CloudEndure
We offer CloudEndure Migration for migrating applications from any physical, virtual, or cloud-based infrastructure to AWS for free. This offer is available to all AWS customers and partners.
CloudEndure Migration simplifies, speeds up and reduces the cost of cloud migration by providing a highly automated lift-and-shift solution. CloudEndure Migration allows you to quickly rehost large numbers of machines to AWS without worrying about compatibility, performance disruptions, or long cutover windows. It can also migrate all applications and databases running on supported versions of Windows and Linux OS.
To get started, register for a free CloudEndure Migration license. Each free license allows 90 days of usage after agent installation. During this period, you can replicate your source machine, run unlimited tests, and perform scheduled cutovers to complete your migration. Using CloudEndure Migration is free, but you will be charged for the AWS infrastructure provisioned during the migration and after cutover, such as compute (EC2) and storage (EBS) resources.
6. AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)
A cloud service that makes it easy to migrate relational databases, data warehouses, NoSQL databases, and other types of data stores. You can use AWS DMS to migrate your data to the AWS Cloud or in a combination of cloud and on-premises configurations.
AWS DMS allows you to perform one-time migrations or replicate ongoing changes to keep your source and target in sync. If you migrate to a different database engine, you can use the AWS Schema Conversion Tool (AWS SCT) to convert your database schema to the new platform. Then use AWS DMS to migrate the data. AWS DMS is part of the AWS cloud, so you get the cost efficiency, speed to market, security, and flexibility that AWS services offer.
At a basic level, AWS DMS is a server in the AWS cloud that runs replication software. She creates source and target connections to tell her AWS DMS where to extract from and read to. Then schedule a task to run on this server to move the data. AWS DMS will create the primary key associated with the table if it does not exist on the target. You can pre-create the target table yourself if you want. Alternatively, you can use the AWS Schema Conversion Tool (AWS SCT) to create some or all of your target tables, indexes, views, and triggers.
7. AWS Storage Gateway
It connects on-premises software appliances with cloud-based storage, providing seamless integration with data security features between your on-premises IT environment and your AWS storage infrastructure. With this service, you can store your data in the Amazon Web Services cloud for scalable, cost-effective storage that helps keep your data secure.
AWS Storage Gateway provides file-based file gateway (Amazon S3 files and Amazon FSx files), volume-based (cache and store), and tape-based storage solutions.

8. AWS Transfer Family
A fully managed service that transfers files to Amazon S3 or Amazon EFS. With support for Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), File Transfer Protocol over SSL (FTP), and File Transfer Protocol (FTP), AWS Transfer Family integrates with existing authentication systems and provides DNS routing with Amazon Route 53 This allows you to seamlessly move your file transfer workflows to AWS, leaving your customer or partner's application environment unchanged. By storing data in Amazon S3 or Amazon EFS, you can leave a backup of your data and use that data in various AWS services such as processing, analysis, machine learning, and developer tools. Using AWS Transfer Family is easy. No infrastructure to buy or set up.
9. AWS DataSync
An online data transfer service that simplifies, automates, and accelerates data movement between on-premises storage systems and AWS storage services, and between AWS storage services. Use DataSync to migrate active datasets to AWS, archive data to free up on-premises storage capacity, replicate data to AWS for business continuity, or use DataSync for analytics and processing. data to the cloud.
Creating, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting scripts that move large amounts of data can strain your IT operations and slow down your migration project. DataSync eliminates this work or handles it automatically. DataSync offers built-in security features such as encryption of data in transit and data integrity verification in transit and at rest. Optimize network bandwidth usage and automatically recover from network connectivity failures. Additionally, DataSync provides control and monitoring capabilities such as scheduling data transfers and detailed visibility into the transfer process through Amazon CloudWatch metrics, logs, and events.
