Yamaha's reasons for not aiming for 100% EV conversion of motorcycles Targeting 90% electrification ratio of sales in 2050
Electrification of large motorcycles is difficult
――We set a goal of electrifying 90% of motorcycles by 2050. To put it the other way around, does that mean that even at that point 10% cannot be electrified?
Basically, I see that large motorcycles for hobby will remain without electrification. As carbon-neutral fuels become more commonplace, some heavy-duty bikes will be able to eliminate emissions, but the rest see no solution yet.
For example, like a Harley-Davidson, a motorcycle that is similar to a car can have many batteries, so it won't be difficult to electrify it.
Is it possible to electrify a motorcycle that has strong hobby elements such as a sports bike (a motorcycle that emphasizes speed and mobility) among large motorcycles? If you load the battery forcibly, it will become heavy, which will change the driving performance and increase the price.
When imagining the actual use, the cruising range is about 100 to 150 km even if the battery is forced, and if you use the highway, you can not run for 2 hours.
――The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has a policy of aiming for 100% non-gasoline sales of new motorcycles in Tokyo by 2035. This trend is spreading worldwide.
