Sony's "PlayStation 5 (PS5)", which will be released in Japan and the United States on November 12, has high specs and a very strategic price. Rakuten Securities Economic Research Institute Chief Analyst Yoshio Imanaka predicts that PS5 sales will reach 200-300 million units in the next five to six years. ＜目次＞11月12日、ソニーの「プレイステーション5（PS5）」が日本や北米、メキシコ、オセアニア、韓国で発売される（ヨーロッパなど他地域では19日発売）。9月17日に発表された希望小売価格は、BDプレーヤー内蔵の標準型が日本4万9,980円、北米499.99ドルで、ダウンロード専用機のデジタルエディションが日本3万9,980円、北米399.99ドルとなっている（税別）。6年9カ月ぶりのPS本体の新作ということで、全世界で話題沸騰中だ。日本では販売店に予約が殺到し、これから予約しても年内の入手はまず困難だと言われている。その世界販売台数について「5、6年の間に2億台から3億台」と予測するのは、楽天証券経済研究所チーフアナリストの今中 能夫氏である。「PS5は、過去最大だったPS2を抜いて、家庭用ゲーム機史上最大の普及台数を記録する可能性があります」（今中氏）この予測がどれほどのことを意味するのか、まずは歴代のプレイステーションの販売台数と比較して説明しよう。関連記事▲ Close ▼ Show all
ソニーの「プレイステーション（PS）」の歴史は、26年前の1994年にさかのぼる。現在のソニー・インタラクティブ・エンタテインメント（SIE）の前身、ソニー・コンピュータ・エンタテイメント（SCE）が設立されたのは1993年11月。翌1994年の12月3日、初代「プレイステーション」が発売され、全世界で累計1億2408万台を売り上げている。2000年3月に発売した「プレイステーション2」は、当時出回り始めたDVDプレーヤーとして買い求めた人もいて、世界累計で1億5768万台を販売した。その頃までのPSの日本市場におけるキラーソフトは「ドラゴンクエスト」シリーズだった。2006年11月発売の「プレイステーション3」の国内キラーソフトは「ファイナルファンタジーXIII」に代わるが、世界累計販売台数は1億に届かず8741万台にとどまった。2014年2月に登場した「プレイステーション4」では、世界累計で再び1億の大台に乗せ、2020年6月末までに1億1210万台を販売している。PS4の日本でのキラーソフトは「モンスターハンター：ワールド」だった。初代からPS4までの歴代機種に「ポケットステーション」（1999年1月発売）、「PSP」（2004年12月発売）、「PS Vita」（2011年12月発売）、「PS4 PRO」（2016年11月発売）などの「スピンアウト企画もの」を加えた世界累計販売台数は、24年間かけて2018年8月に5億台を突破した。ここで、前述の「5、6年で2～3億台」という今中氏の予測を思い出してほしい。「PS5」は2020年代の前半だけで、その半分相当の台数を売り切ってしまいそうだというのである。その勢いには、「あつまれ どうぶつの森」の大ヒットに沸く任天堂の「Nintendo Switch」も、PS5発売日の2日前の11月10日に発売されるマイクロソフトの「Xbox series X/S」も、かすんでしまいそうだ。なぜ、PS5はこんなに売れると見込まれているのだろうか。今中氏は、その理由としてまず「価格でのサプライズ」を挙げる。【次ページ】初期ロットの原価はなんと……。戦略的な価格設定ができたワケRecommended articles
