＜目次＞2020年以降の新型コロナウイルス感染拡大は流通市場にどのような影響を与えたのでしょうか。最も影響を受けたと考えられるのが消費者に近い小売企業です。これは、コロナに伴う消費者の生活スタイルと消費行動の変化が大きく関係しています。コロナ前とコロナ以降の消費者のインターネットを活用した購入比率を比較すると、2019年の6.76％から2020年には8.08％と増えています。またその間、物販における市場規模は10兆515億円から12兆2,333億円と21.7％増えています。このようにインターネットの普及と合わせて成長してきたEC市場は、コロナをキッカケにさらに拡大することが期待されているのです。こうした中、今後はより消費者のニーズを汲んだ流通構造へと自社を変革できた企業が生き残っていけるのだと考えています。実際に、これまでも企業は生き残るために消費者ニーズに合わせて流通構造を変革させてきた歴史があります。たとえば、1900年以降、売り手中心の社会から買い手中心の社会へと移っていった時代、小売店舗の大型化やチェーンストア型の業態の拡大に伴い、メーカー中心の流通構造から小売業中心の流通構造へのシフトが起こりました（流通革命）。中でもコンビニなどの業態は消費者の生活圏に密着し、消費者の変化を察知しながら、新しい業態へと自らを変革させることで成長を遂げてきました。しかし2000年以降、コンビニを含む多くの小売業は、消費者のデジタル化の流れに取り残され苦戦している状況があります。一方、SPA（製造小売業）と呼ばれる小売業は、これまでの製配販（メーカー：製、中間流通・卸：配、小売：販）を融合しサプライチェーン全体を作りあげることで、消費者のニーズを店頭で把握し、製造ラインへ効率的に伝え、需要に合わせて供給する仕組みを構築しています。たとえば、アパレルファッション業界世界1位のアパレルメーカーインディティクスでは、自社の展開するブランドZARAの店頭で収集した情報を基に消費者トレンドを掴み、たった2週間で新商品を製造し店頭に並べるという、企画・製造・流通のスピードを極限まで短縮した事例として有名です。一方、日本でもファーストリテイリングのユニクロやニトリなどは、海外での調達から製造、保管、販売までのサプライチェーンをつなげることで効率的な流通網を築いています。このように、小売企業が商品へのこだわりだけでなく流通に力を入れることで、品質、コスト、デリバリーにおいて他社との差別化を実現しています。その際、製造から販売までをつなぎ流通構造を効率化させるために不可欠なのがデジタル技術です。適切にデジタル活用ができれば、流通に関連する部署や企業をリアルタイムにつなぐことができ、店頭情報を瞬時に工場に届けることができます。一方、サプライチェーンを構成する企業間の情報のやり取りが遅延したり、そもそも情報が不確実だったりすると、小売業の仕入れ担当者は欠品を回避しようと過剰発注となり、それが結果として倉庫に在庫が残る原因になります。流通構造の効率化のためだけでなく、最近ではデジタル化により消費者の顧客体験の向上にも取り組む企業が出てきています。それがウォルマートです。ここからは同社の事例を解説していきます。【次ページ】コロナ禍で消費者に大ウケ、ウォルマートの「流通改革」とはRecommended article
